How to Host a Favorite Things Party

WORK WITH ME

Back in December I hosted a Favorite Things party and it was one of my favorite nights in a long, long time. I gathered 20 of my favorite women, some of my favorite local beverages, and asked everyone to bring a dish to pass. I hired a local decorator who took care of set up and tear down and executed my vision perfectly, and made my life easier. I created a playlist of my favorite Christmas songs that I had playing throughout the evening, and I had custom cookies made. The guests arrived around 6pm and we just mingled for about an hour. This is the easy part. Up until this point, it’s just a party. You can do it however you wish.

This is the part where you need instructions.

For the Favorite Things Gift Exchange:

Step 1

Prior to the party, before sending out the invites, you are going to set a price limit (ex $20) and you are going to instruct each guest to bring a favorite product that rings in around $20 and purchase that item 3 times. They will wrap each item and bring them to the party. You can also do a lower dollar amount, or a higher dollar amount and fewer items (ex. 2 items at $30 or $40).

Step 2

As your guests arrive, you are going to put each person’s name into a bowl three times.

Step 3

You are going to determine the gifting order. I did this by putting numbers in a bowl and having each guest draw a number. (Ex. I had 20 guests, I had put the numbers 1-20 in a bowl, and each guest drew a number.)

Step 4

Each guest is going to choose a number. When it is their turn, they are going to choose three names. Those three people are going to get their gift. While the recipients are unwrapping their gift, they will present their gift and explain why they love it.

It’s as easy as that! A Favorite Things party will easily become one of your – and your party guests’ – favorite things!
